Four Thirds camera:

Micro Four Thirds cameras, sometimes referred to as 4/3, are easily identified and separated from the rest of their brethren by one fundamental feature – a 4/3-inch sensor.

These unique little fellas were created by Panasonic and Olympus along with Kodak in an effort to create a high quality camera with features that provide advantages over rivals. However, even though these cameras are significantly smaller than other systems on the market doesn’t mean image quality suffers for it.

Size and weight:

The best thing about this system is its size. Because of their small size, Micro Four Thirds systems are often used as travel cameras or secondary backup cameras. These systems can be extremely portable and lightweight which makes them very popular among tourists or working photographers who need to transport their gear from place to place often.

Because Micro Four Thirds systems do an excellent job of bridging the gap between compact camera performance and professional DSLR quality, some professionals have even begun using these smaller formats for certain types of work in lieu of a larger sized camera.

Advanced and Unique Tech:

Olympus and Panasonic both have a variety of very useful features. One example is Olympus which has Live Composite, which allows me to take a night photo that wouldn’t overexpose any key elements within the frame by allowing me to gradually build up an exposure over time.

The camera records only newly detected light sources over time and shows what it will do on the LCD screen, making it easy for me to watch how my image develops as I change exposure. Another useful feature is Fast Hybrid Auto Focus, which is similar to Panasonic’s high quality autofocus system which basically helps speed up performance by combining contrast and phase detection methods into one.

Mix & Match Lenses:

The Four Thirds system is a collaborative design between some of the bigger names within the photographic world. There are very few necessary adapters for this system, meaning that most lense/camera combinations will work seamlessly together.

Technology:

Since Micro Four Thirds was introduced, the founders had the foresight to anticipate the future. Any new way of doing things is immediately considered and implemented before anything else. 4K photo mode, 6K video, in-camera stabilization and high resolution stacking are all examples that make this technology leader stand out from the crowd!

Canon G7X Mark II review

Panasonic GH5 is a mirrorless camera with a 20.3 megapixel Digital Live MOS Sensor with no low-pass filter. The camera has a continuous shooting speed of 12 frames per second with a maximum shutter speed of 1/8000 seconds.

The camera, the camera, the camera. How important is the camera to making a film. Again, I think this is the wrong question. You don’t buy a camera to shoot a film. You buy a camera to get the film shot. A great camera won’t make you a great cinematographer or film maker.

Pros
  • Focus peaking is easy to see and, from what I can tell so far, accurate.
  • Waveform! (I assign it to the custom button on front of the GH5 to quickly toggle on/off).
  • Dual SD cards = peace of mind.
  • Can record in V-log L, but monitor with LUT (gives you accurate preview of final image).
Cons
  • DISP button location is… silly.
